UK Ministry of Justice publishes guidance on reducing delay in child care proceedings
'The new Public Law Outline for the conduct of care proceedings is the welcome product of a co-operative enterprise between the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice to reduce delays and to improve the case management of care cases. European Commission carries out antitrust inspections in CPU and PC sector
The European Commission can confirm that on 12th February 2008, Commission officials carried out unannounced inspections at the premises of a manufacturer of Central Processing Units (CPUs) and a number of personal computer (PC) retailers. The Commission has reason to believe that the companies concerned may have violated EC Treaty rules on restrictive business practices (Article 81) and/or abuse of a dominant market position (Article 82).The Commission officials were accompanied by their counterparts from the relevant national competition authorities. read more…

EC proposes to improve and streamline the system for collecting, analysing and reporting environmental information in Europe
Timely, reliable and relevant information on the state of environment is essential for sound policies. This includes information on how the climate is changing, whether European waters are improving and how nature is reacting to pollution and changing land use. Such information should be made available to all and be easily understood. To this end the Commission proposes to improve, modernise and streamline the present information systems by establishing a European Shared Environment Information System. read more…

HM Treasury announces changes to encourage more investment in disadvantaged communities
The changes are designed to strengthen the ability of organisations, known as community development finance institutions (CDFIs), to attract private investment. In turn, these organisations provide access to finance for enterprises in disadvantaged communities that have been turned down by mainstream providers like banks. read more…
